Migrant Resource Centres, Pakistan

The Migrant Resource Centres (MRCs) are established under the auspices of Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOPHRD) and Department of Labour (DoL), Punjab in Islamabad and Lahore. MRCs provides information and counselling to the intended migrants on safe migration, raises awareness on irregular migration, migrant smuggling, human trafficking and the related serious risks, in order to empower potential migrants and encourage them to make informed choices, as well as referral to skills providing institutions and trade testing centres.

These centres are operational since January, 2016 with the funding from European Union and implemented by International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

Remote Migrant Resource Centre - Afghanistan

The Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) – Afghanistan works closely with some government and non-government agencies that provide support to inform Afghans who want to go abroad, who face troubles in another country or who want to return. MRC refers to the right agency or organisation, which can help migrants in their area of expertise.

The MRC operates the migration hotline 5588 where people of all over the country can call toll-free and ask questions on migration as well as a website and Facebook page

Migrant Resource Centres - Bangladesh

Two Migrant resource centres have been established in Dhaka and Cumilla. MRCs are under supervision of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (MEWOE) and integrated with the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) and District Employment and Manpower Office (DEMO).

MRCs in the Middle East

Anti-Racism Movement

Established by a Lebanese NGO called the Anti-Racism Movement in Beirut 2011, the MCC has four regional locations in Lebanon. The MCCs offer migrant workers free language classes, computer classes, health and rights awareness sessions, advocacy training, cultural events, social gatherings, and opportunities to celebrate national holidays. The target groups are migrants of Asian and African origin, with a special focus on women migrant domestic workers.

Caritas Lebanon Migrant Centre

Established and supported by the global NGO Caritas Internationalis, the Caritas Lebanon Migrant Centre runs a MRC in Beirut and provides legal assistance to migrants in Lebanon. The Centre also supports cultural celebrations for migrant workers during their respective national holidays and offers a meeting space which can be pre-booked by different communities.

Caritas Jordan Community Centre

Established and supported by the global NGO Caritas Internationalis, Caritas Jordan Community Centre was established in 2002 to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to refugees and migrant workers. The Centre offers cash assistance to migrants in need, access to medical services, social and legal awareness sessions, and vocational trainings.

AMEL Association International

A Lebanese NGO established their Migrant Centre in 2011 as part of a European Union funded program. Amel currently has two permanent centres offering weekly empowerment activities (language classes, employment related trainings, literacy classes) to women migrant domestic workers in Beirut, and also provides services (legal, health, psychosocial and social) on a ‘needs basis’ in 8 centres across Lebanon (not specific to migrant workers).

There work includes; Information and Advice, Undocumented migrants, Au pair and Home Care, Forced labour and Trafficking, Young people and Education, work and Labour migration

They offer the clients (vulnerable migrants) the advice and support they need to feel safe and lead successful lives in the UK. They also assist victims of human trafficking and modern slavery on their path to recovery and work with other agencies to combat this abhorrent crime.

The Migrants Law Project, UK

The Migrants’ Law Project is a legal and public legal education project, hosted by Islington Law Centre. The MLP promotes fair treatment and access to justice for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in the UK through the use of public law. The MLP seeks to protect and promote the human rights of asylum seekers, migrants, and refugees, by seeking to tackle problems at their root in a sustainable, high impact way. They work towards addressing this imbalance by providing advice, support and training to organisations working with vulnerable groups, and where necessary, using our legal expertise to assist or lead on legal challenges.

RMNS offers friendship, advice, counselling and English language classes to refugees, asylum seekers and newly settled migrants.

MRCs in Asia Pacific and South East Asia

Asian Migrant Centre (AMC) – Hong Kong

Established in 1991, the Asian Migrant Centre (AMC) is a regional NGO based in Hong Kong. AMC carries out action oriented research on migration issues, policy and media advocacy, and capacity building for organisations working to empower, protect and promote the rights of migrants in Asia.

Since 2002, AMC enjoys a Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.

Migrant Information Centre (Eastern Melbourne)

The Migrant Information Centre (MIC) provides a range of services for migrants and refugees living in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne including individual, relationship, family and child support programs, mediation services and parent education.

Australian Migrant Resource Centre

The Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) specializes in humanitarian and migrant settlement, and community capacity building and development for young people, women and other migrants, empowering them through training and employment initiatives. By assisting to build community, the AMRC supports new arrivals and their new and establishing groups and communities to engage with and contribute effectively to South Australia’s society, culture, economy and environment.

The Migrant Centre

The Migrant Centre Organisation Inc. (TMC) is a not-for-profit community-based organisation incorporated in March 2001. It is governed by a volunteer management committee, managed by a small professional team with the help of volunteers who come from all walks of life. The organisation promotes the benefits of multiculturalism, pluralism of opinion, and the contribution of all migrant communities. TMC strongly believes in the value that migrants bring to Australian society through the sharing of culture, language and religion.

TMC is funded by the Australian Government to provide services and assistance with settlement of newly-arrived migrants and employment.
